From the Ground to the Sun

2018. Participatory durational event

For London’s Art Night , Ben Judd presented From the Ground to the Sun, a participatory site-specific installation in the heart of an existing community. Four temporary, re-usable domes were built on a public square in Doddington Estate, Battersea, London. The work interacted directly both with visitors and the local community by inviting them to help complete the domes’ construction, working alongside architectural practice EVA Studio. Participants also ate a meal made from locally-sourced ingredients. By exploring notions of identity, community, engagement and estrangement, this work actively encouraged participants to examine the diverse ways in which social groups can develop.
