Polyrhythm was a performance by Ben Judd that included a series of choreographed actions performed by actors and musicians in public. Polyrhythm investigated our relationship to the city, by looking at the notion of how we adopt multiple, or fractured, positions and roles. The performance consisted of actors and musicians, performing in Union Square in New York, renowned as a site of social and political activism. The words and lyrics that the performers used were taken from American political speeches that, when taken out of context, suggest a unifying rhetoric and a Utopian vision of the future. The performers responded to the layout of the square, converging at its centre as their dialogue and song overlapped and merged.
