I Am On Top of the World
2013. Five-channel video, 21:08 mins
I Am On Top of the World was shot on an island on a boating lake in Epping Forest, London. Performers, on boats, gradually converge on the island, singing broken chords that are traditionally used as warm-up exercises for choirs. On the island they perform a series of choreographed movements which coincide with the sung phrases. Passers by join in the singing. A moment of synchronicity (both physical and musical) is achieved at the work’s centre, before the performers disperse and leave the island.
The work is projected onto five screens arranged into a circle, and viewed from the centre of the circle.
