The Island of Lost Conceits
2010. Performance, 30:00 mins
The Island of Lost Conceits was a performance by Ben Judd at La Galleria, New York City, as part of the exhibition To Believe. Actors, embedded in the audience, performed spoken word, song and instrumentation so that the circle of performers and audience members referenced a utopian island community. Text was based on literary sources that describe an island utopia (Washington Irving’s The Enchanted Island, Tommaso Campanella’s The City of the Sun, Francis Bacon’s The New Atlantis, Thomas More’s Utopia, Paul Gauguin’s Tahiti Journal, Edgar Allan Poe’s Island of the Fay).
